I think this as stage young girls go through. Some never grow out of it, but I think it sometimes causes trouble for her older woman partner when she begins to take an interest in men as she gets older. Some remain lesbian throughout and are a disappointment to men.
This goes back to the time when to be gay was illegal even though being a lesbian wasn't. The convention was the girl that wanted to play the part of the woman, as opposed to the girl who was butch, dress in skirts and used make up and lipstick to attract a partner. Butch lesbians would dress in trousers and waistcoats and try and look like men and make the first move to a 'lipstick' lesbian.
It is the opposite of the one who rolls her own tampons and kick starts her vibrator :))
