Why are there more buth lesbians than lipsticks?

Why are so many girls rejecting the feminine aspects of their personality? Do they feel that feminine=weak? Why are there more buth lesbians than lipsticks?
I'm not sure that there are more of one than the other. And, there are many types than just butch/lipstick. . . and other names, and multiple ways of seeing yourself. . .

And, I wouldn't say that they are ';rejecting'; their feminine. . .Some may be, but for the most part it is just a different way of defining it.Why are there more buth lesbians than lipsticks?
Maybe it's the fact that you only notice the butch lesbians because they look different based on gender stereotypes.

Feminine is only how society defines it. It changes over time.
how can you tell a lipstick lesbian from a straight gal?

Sersiously.

I think you're seeing this from only one perspective, because you can easily identify a butch lesbian, but a lipstick lesbian isn't as easily identified because they mix in with straight women more easily.
Butch. It took me a second..I don't know.
What makes you think they're rejecting something? Butch women are the way they are, and the way they are is perfect for them. (Also for me, because I find butch women absolutely captivating.)
I've been out of nightlife for a few years; but this was true from my POV in Boston.

Purely on a butch-femme spectrum on looks/mannerisms alone 80% were in the dead middle of the bell curve - college lesbians who were girls but not overly feminine.

Then, there were femmes and butches far and few btwn, usually together. There was ONE lipstick femme that I remember to this day. Otherwise no hardcore lipstick femmes, which was extremely disappointing/awkward for me as a hardcore butch.
A couple of points:

1) In many places, there are just as many, if not more, femme lesbians than butch ones. They just blend in more easily, are less visible, and don't get noticed the way butches do.

2) Any GLBT community has its fair share of people who don't ';follow the rules';, as it were. Female femininity is the norm, the standard, what the 'straights' do. And while we've come a long way from the time when lesbians who wanted to embrace their femininity were outcast, the community is still a place for women to try on different expressions of their gender and to play with roles.

3) Butch girls aren't rejecting the 'feminine aspects of their personality' any more than men are rejecting theirs. If you're butch, it's because you don't have any/many feminine aspects. It's how people are born.
