Lipstick lesbians and Dykes assemble?

Okay so here is my thought.

I hate it when people say ';You don't' look gay...'; What does that mean? Does it mean I don't look like a boy, my hair isn't short enough,

I don't dress in mannish apparel?

Why do I have to look gay?

I think that it might be harder for us ';lipstick lesbians'; to find woman, because of this general belief about lesbians.

As a lesbain, I like girls who look...well, like girls.

How do you feel about this topic?Lipstick lesbians and Dykes assemble?
hmmm.

:]

Interesting topic.

I think When the average American hears the word ';gay lesbian,'; they picture the stereotypical ';butch'; look. They picture the opposite from what they should think a girl should look like. Truthfully, I have received many ';';Wow! You DO give off gay vibes!';'; myself, and I think you don't have to look like what the general public thinks you should look like.

Personally, I dress however I am feeling that day. Some days It's vests, band shirts, bandannas, mushroom necklaces, other days it's floral dresses and girly attire. :p

Ha. I do agree that us ';lipstick lesbians'; have a hard time finding other women, but usually as one myself, I tend to go for the women with the shorter hair and a badass aura. However I do occasionally dig the feminine girls.

:]

I know lots of bi and lesbian girls. They're not extremely girly but they are deeeeffffiinitely not the stereotypical ';dyke.'; They also tend to like more ';lipstick'; types.

Same goes for the opposite side too.

When people think a guy is gay because he's feminine, it's just like, wth? I know guys that are feminine, masculine, and everywhere inbetween that are gay, I definitely know there is zero correlation. I'm gay and I'm definitely not feminine at all, and I don't find that sort of thing attractive in a man.

So yeah I feel the same way.
I have the same issue, I'm femme, and when people find out I'm gay, they're like oh you don't look like it.

It just means you don't look butch, but yeah it is harder to find a woman, mostly because they don't know you're gay.

I think putting yourself out there and straight up bringing it up, or subtley telling someone who you think is interested or your interested in should help the process.
Well, how I feel about it is this: you don't have to act or look any other way than how you want to. Screw people and their silly stereotypes. Be how you want, and if you want people to know that you're gay, just tell them. That will surely clear up any doubt. ;-)

As for the topic in general, I'm bi, and I have short hair---but only because I WANT short hair. I'm not trying to send out any signals, and my short hair is a pixie cut, so it still looks very feminine. While I would most likely be the more masculine role in the relationship, physical looks have nothing to do with it. I still dress in female clothes (even though I very much love jogging pants because they're comfy).

Right now, I'm with a guy, and he loves my short hair, too. So, I guess all I can say is, yeah, be how you want. Girls with long hair are hot. :-P
just be yourself not allot of woman like the woman that looks like a man or a boy just be yourself don't mind what other people make out of you not everybody have the same taste but i understand what you are saying completely you could be a lesbian and put on make up you don't have to look like a man or a boy for some lesbians it just does not look right they prefer woman looking like woman not like a man trust me there is allot of lesbian just like you don't let that bother you just be yourself
I agree- I hate the term ';You don't look gay.';

But then again, I REALLY hate the term ';I like girls who look like girls.';

Women come in all different types, from butch to femme (and that includes straight women, not just lesbians). To say that all ';real girls'; look feminine is just as insulting as saying that all gay women look butch.
For girlies like us, I think we might as well get ';I LOVE GIRLS'; tattooed on our foreheads. *sigh*

But we live in a stereotypical society, so what can we do? I'm particulaly annoyed with this. It's like we have to start conforming to stereotypes to really get regonized as gay/bi. Grrr...

Can I use ';jews suck'; as a punching bag?
Here Here!!!!! Finally someone (apart from me) said it. I like a girly girl, and am a bit of a girl next door type myself.

i dont know what makes the whole world think that if you are a lesbian, you ride a motorbike and have a crew cut. (no offense to my DOB mates out there)

I guess its the same way they assume all gay men to be very camp.

Stereotypes are silly and dangerouse but on the upside of it all, we are the last ones the husband/boyfriend suspects when their ladies have a huge grin on their faces :) (just jokes moral police)
i like girls who look and dress like girls.

cos the whole point in being gay is to like the same sex.. soooo.. why dress up like a guy?.. i hate those short hair cuts too. i mean its alright if it looks good on you. but if it doesn't look right why do people have to follow this trend? stupid.
I like lesbians that look like girls but I don't see why we have to dress like a man to let people know we are gay. I think it is the same as walking around with a stamp on your head that says ';Hey I'm gay';.
I like girls who look like girls, too. I'm just not much attracted to butch like that. You don't have to look gay, that's crazy and so stereotypical of people to say.
i like dudes who are dudes, not dudes who try and look like chicks

so there you have it **** stereotypes they confuse me.
If it bothers you so much then why dont you ask the person who says it to you. Dumb AZZ.
well to a certain extent people know when someone is gay/lesbian or not.

its ignorance.
sterotypes are here to stay
